Arden of Faversham is a domestic tragedy (author unknown), depicting the murder of Thomas Arden, by his wife and her lover. Greene then is all, well, clean the blood off your head and let’s come up with Plan B because you promised. Exeunt Alice and Mosby. Arden basically says, OK, fine, I was all riled up and talking shit but, hey, all the knights and gentlemen of Kent (343) are gossiping about you and Alice – but – if what you say is true – we’re homies now. and Mosby says Three games for a French crown, sir, and please you. Hint, hint. Now that they have vented their rage at Michael, Black Will says, OK, let’s find Greene but, damn it, I know he’ll swear. And he’s going to London. Exeunt Arden and Franklin. Well, paybacks are hell because now Mosby beats Arden with an iron and then Shakebag stabs Arden and then Alice says to Arden, what’s with all this crybaby groaning BS – here’s for getting between me and Mosby – and then she takes the knife from Shakebag and stabs Arden. Alice says sweet – go set up the tables then go stand before the countinghouse door (155) – the countinghouse, or home office as we might call it today, is the room where Black Will and Shakebag are hiding – and Michael says why? (7-8). (617). Alice sees Mosby approaching so she sends Michael off with a final warning to let not him nor any know thy drifts (177). (Duh.) Alice then muses on how she knows Mosby loves her and the problem is that stupid jealous husband of hers, oh, and their nosy neighbors too. Alice is all, whatever, a little more snow and the footprints will disappear. Enter Michael. (87) and so Greene spells it out about how he wants revenge on Arden of Faversham for stealing his land and, so will you two fellows kill him for me? – because the constable there had twenty warrants to apprehend me (12) and besides, he had robbed him and his man once at Gadshill. Arden calls out, yo, where are you, ferry dude? (10) and Black Will says, well, sort of and then launches into a lengthy description of his extortion business and all the criminal stuff he did related to that and how he’s waylaid constables and on and on and (insert pause here) Yet cannot do this; doubtless / he is preserved by a miracle. ( Log Out /  But despite his great wealth, Arden isn't happy. Alice then says to Michael (damn, yet another aside) how do I get rid of all these people and Michael says, leave that to me and then he tells Bradshaw, well, you know there are tons of thugs lurking about at night and you have to walk through some creepy narrow alleys so, you know, I’d leave if I were you and Bradshaw is like, true, loan me a torch, I’m out of here and exeunt Bradshaw, and Adam Fowle. Then Susan says, um, it quit snowing as soon as we dumped his dead ass and Alice is all, damn it, they’re knocking on the door, Michael, let ‘em in. Anyway, what he especially wants everyone to know is that two years after the murder, there was still an imprint of Arden’s body on the ground where his body was dumped. / The other is Franklin, Arden’s dearest friend. Alice gets all indignant about it and then Franklin reminds Arden to be nice so he (Arden) backs off and Alice offers some lame excuse and then he tells her OK, I know you love me, and, oh, by the way, me and Franklin are going to London. (379). Miss Havisham is an example of single-minded

( Log Out /  vengeance pursued destructively: both Miss Havisham and the people London: A & C Black. Alice then says to Michael (presumably as he is escorting the guests to the door) show them to the door but then return, I don’t wanna be alone right now and then she tells Susan to go find Mosby but then she says, no, wait, what the hell do I need Mosby for, Stay, Susan, stay, and help to counsel me. Black Will then says, well, I got my gold so I’m out of here.

Greene is all, check it out, here comes Arden’s man – he’s an idiot but he may actually know something that could be useful to us. (37) and Franklin is, well, fine, but only about one in twenty dreams come true so give it a rest and then Arden is all, let’s go walk in Paul’s then we’ll grab a bite to eat and then we’ll head back to Faversham. (55). (116) and Arden starts apologizing and begging forgiveness and says, I’ll do anything I feel like such an ass I just can’t stand to have you angry at me – he appears to be somewhat co-dependent – and Alice says, no, if you loved me you would have known it was all a joke and, oh, by the way, if you were really Mosby’s friend you would go and try to help him, after all he’s wounded and, in fact, I’ll never love you again unless you do just that. (1) and – of course – Black Will takes exception to this and launches into a rant – Then ask me if my nose be on my face, (3) – and basically says this is an insult of the sort to fight about then he goes on (and on) about how you might as well ask me how many pistols I’ve ever held, do I love the smell of gunpowder, etc and wraps it up with and, besides, I’ve stolen way more shit than you so there. ( Log Out /  Anyway, Greene says, cut the crap and he throws in a quick summary of a fable by Aesop and Shakebag says, well Black Will started it and Black Will says and yeah, I’ll end it too – we’ll start this up later and if I somehow forget then – and he kneels in a mockery of religious devotion – and that is that. He then lays a serious and rather wordy curse on Arden – including some additional foreshadowing stuff (as if we needed more at this point) and then Franklin says to Dick Reede this cursing bullshit is gonna come back to bite you in the ass and Dick Reede says, basically, whatever, let it and then launches into more ranting and cursing concluding with and I’ll teach my children to curse you too And thus I go, but leave my curse with thee. what do you mean, and Mosby says, well I swore to give your ass up as long as Arden is still alive and, well, I swore it so there’s nothing can be done. Damn. Copyright © FreeBookNotes.com 2014-2020. Miss Arden sends Michael to ready the horses – exit Michael – and then Alice starts in on Arden because he isn’t eating (the poison broth) fast enough. Arden says, hey, something doesn’t taste right with this broth – did you make it Alice? (99) in response to which Shakebag then delivers a wonderfully poetic retort that starts out with I cannot paint my valour with words (100) and then Greene basically congratulates them on being men of firm resolve (106) and says, essentially, we’ll try it again and then enter Michael. This is merely a bromance and nothing more. (221) and Arden says, cool and then they begin their game. (104) (= a companion – meant in a demeaning way with implied sexual meaning – for your servants). Arden of Faversham by Anonymous. Things are not looking good for Black Will. (296). (70) and Alice is all like well, yeah, actually, to my former happy life again (71) … from title of an odious strumpet’s name (72) – because of my association with the likes of you – To honest Arden’s wife (73) and then she lays on him some more bullshit about how he ruined her life – how could she stoop so low – you bewitched (78) me – all that sort of shit. So his plan is to take an oyster boat or some such thing to Flushing – this is apparently a reference to the coastal village in Cornwall – and hide out there.

(303) and Greene says, it’s cool, Arden’s OK and Alice persists – no he’s not OK, I just know he would never stay out this late – Franklin, go look for him and when you find him tell him to get his ass home because I’m worried and Franklin says (probably in another aside although that isn’t entirely necessary) man, this shit is freaking me out, I’ll go look for him. What will you do? revenge, she has only caused more pain. Alice attempts to engage with Mosby but he asks where her husband is and when Alice explains that he is at the quay unloading goods Mosby is all There let him be; henceforth know me not. Zounds, we’ll kill him though we be hanged at his door for / our labour. Clarke thanks Alice and says how grateful he is and then exit Clarke. Greene says basically, Mistress Arden ain’t gonna be happy about this and Shakebag is all yeah she’ll think we’re cowards and Black Will is all whatever let’s go and plot the news to cut him off tomorrow. Alice says, hey, I already told you, Susan is yours and Michael says, oh, yeah, I’ll kill Arden then and Alice says see you do it cunningly (164) – like that’s going to happen – and Michael launches into a speech about how, whatever, even if I get caught it ain’t no thing because Susan – being a maid (166) – can save me from the gallows simply by asking me to marry her (not) and Alice says, in effect, you’re on crack, but Michael is not listening, in fact, he goes on to tell her how he is also going to kill his older brother so he can have the family farm and that will totally win over Susan so there.

Mosby then gets all defensive – First let the world dissolve! Susan is all, counsel you? Adam Fowle is all, oh, is that all? Shakebag asks what the signal is – this could be played for laffs too – and Mosby says it’s Now I take you. (I don’t need to explain what potfinger means do I?) Exit Michael. Arden, of course, gets all in his business about what a paltry knave (15) he (Michael) is and then Franklin takes a verbal shot at Michael and then Arden demands to see the letter. So Bradshaw says he is heading to London because he got caught with some stolen plate and he has to find the guy that sold him the stuff or else he hangs – and, um, well you know those sort of characters, yes? She then reminds Mosby that, oh, and by the way, I am descended of a noble house (202) and my husband is a gentleman / Whose servant thou may’st be (202-203). At this, Greene asks Bradshaw to take a letter to Mistress Arden and Bradshaw says, yeah, OK, and then he gives Back Will a crown (money) for thy good news.
