North Chickamauga Creek could most easily be compared to the Upper Yock. Chickamauga Creek refers to two short tributaries of the Tennessee River, which join the river near Chattanooga, Tennessee. The take-out is in the Bowater Pocket Wilderness area off of Montlake Road. The State Natural Area Section traversing North Chickamauga Creek Gorge State Natural Area is the only portion of the segment constructed at this time. The North Chickamauga Creek Gorge, located 15 miles from downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, is a beautiful deep central gorge cut into the sandstone plateau of Walden's Ridge.It is approximately 10 miles long--steep, and rugged with forested slopes and very limited access. With the map at the start point it's still not clear for the route. Stunningly tucked into the side of Walden's Ridge, concealing over 75 class III-V rapids in 12 glorious isolated miles, North Chick is the classic benchmark and staple of Chattanooga's best quality whitewater.

The North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy is dedicated to conserving & enhancing the important natural, cultural, and recreational resources of the North Chickamauga Creek watershed for the present & future use and enjoyment of its human & natural inhabitants. It took us a while to find out the start point at the parking lot. The North Chickamauga Creek Segment will eventually link with Tennessee River Gorge Segment to the southwest at US 127 and to Three Gorges Segment to the northeast at Mowbray Pike.

The two streams are North Chickamauga Creek and South Chickamauga Creek, joining the Tennessee from the north and south side, respectively.

There is also a West Chickamauga Creek, which is a much longer tributary of the South Chickamauga Creek. North Chickamauga Creek is a 7,093-acre natural area located in Hamilton and Sequatchie Counties. To the gorge, take Highway 27, exit at Thrasher Pike and turn left, go about a mile to Dayton Pike, and then turn right and proceed a mile to Montlake Road. Site Directions: North Chickamauga Creek Gorge is located 15 miles north of Chattanooga.There is access to hiking in the gorge and on the plateau.
