Been following this thread closely whilst doing some works on our house. Some features are able to be configured via the command line, but the UDM lacks the config file system of the USG.
Outside a few setup wizards, the EdgeRouter and EdgeSwitch products don’t hold your hand, and they expect you to be able to configure things manually. It appears to be a more traditional replacement for the USG-Pro. That is what UniFi is good for. If they fit your network needs, they are still good products. EdgeRouters are more traditional networking equipment.
A Smart Queue can be CPU intensive. UniFi® Security Gateway, which extends the UniFi Enterprise System to encompass routing and security for your network. It can be also be a controller for their VoIP phone system, UniFi Talk, and will support their upcoming access control products, which are still in development. IPS in particular is computationally intensive because the router has to inspect the contents of every packet for arbitrary patterns, not just the packet headers. I recommend smart queues.
There is also a completely separate line of products, EdgeRouter, which may be a better option depending on your needs. You get a lot of control and visibility into your network and usage, especially with Deep Packet Inspection. Press J to jump to the feed.
