Our aim is to support research groups in their work, with the latest microscopy techniques and software solutions. Our extensive biology program opens up a wide range of career perspectives, such as in research, teaching, communications or consulting, in the fields of medicine and biotechnology, in the pharmaceutical and food industry at universities or in government organizations.
This three-year program combines know-how in biology and engineering and also teaches economics, patent law and languages. The university hosts the faculties of theology, law, medicine, humanities and social sciences, science, psychology, and business and economics, as well as numerous cross-disciplinary subjects and institutes, such as the Biozentrum for biomedical research and the Institute for European Global Studies. We mostly use zebrafish as a model system because genetic, genomic and imaging approaches can be combined to study complex behaviors and developmental processes in a vertebrate. 24 research groups will collaborate on the research project. Research and teaching at the Biozentrum is focused on Molecular Biology.
It consists of 30 groups and 500 employees. Further research groups are located in Zurich (ETH, University of Zurich and University Hospital Zurich) and Lausanne (EPFL and University of Lausanne). We use Google Search as our search engine. You will also present your research in a 10-minute presentation and 10-minute question and answer seminar to the Program Committee and other interested group leaders. The aim is to find new antibiotics and develop alternative strategies to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria by linking basic research directly with clinical research. A chaperone – a PhD from the fellowships − will be your personal guide during these days, tell you about being a PhD at the Biozentrum and be happy to answer your questions.
With more than 550 employees, the Biozentrum is the largest department at the University of Basel's Faculty of Science.
International PhD Program.
Postdocs. An international research team from the Ben-Gurion University in Beersheba, Israel, is also part of this network. This brings together critical expertise from completely different research disciplines that optimally complement each other in order to tackle one of the major challenges of modern medicine. At the D-BSSE, the microsystems and tissue culture models developed by the biologists are further refined and optimized to meet the needs specifically for drug development. We are always looking for exceptional people who want to join us as students or post-docs. Using these biomarkers, human tissue culture models are developed for use in the laboratory, which represent the infection process in the body of the patient. All three are infection biologists at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel.
The Biozentrum is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. You will be studying in an international environment with researchers from 40 different nations and at one of the world-wide leading institutes for Molecular Life Sciences. The Master’s degree takes three semesters. This will build the groundwork for future collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry in the development of new drugs. Research includes the areas of cell growth and development, infection biology, neurobiology, structural biology and biophysics, and computational and systems biology. The fellowships offer direct access to the PhD program of the Biozentrum, University of Basel, additional financial support financial support, a rotation-based selection of the research group, and support for the attendance of scientific meetings and courses during the PhD. Understanding their evolutionary dynamics and adaptability is important to limit the spread of these pathogens. Basel is the geographical centre of the NCCR "AntiResist". The prerequisite for admission to the Master's program in Molecular Biology is a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Major in Molecular Biology, in some cases Integrative Biology, or a Bachelor of Science in Computational Sciences with a specialization in Computational Biology. «AntiResist» has established the following research focus for each of the three phases: The Swiss National Science Foundation is supporting the NCCR in its initial funding phase from 2020 to 2023 with 17 million Swiss francs. Research at the Biozentrum embraces a wide range of topics with a focus on understanding how molecules are organized to create life and living organisms. By continuing to browse the site you are agreeing to this. Overview. The NCCR "AntiResist: New approaches to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria" will establish an interdisciplinary center for antibiotic research, in collaboration with researchers based at the Biozentrum, University Hospital Basel, the Department of Biomedicine and the Department of Biosystems (D-BSSE) at ETH Zurich in Basel. Thereof, the Biozentrum’s focus is on Molecular Biology. Master's degree programsIn continuation of our Bachelor’s degree in Biology, the University of Basel offers six different Master’s degree programs: Molecular Biology, Animal Biology, Epidemiology, Infection Biology and Ecology and Plant Science.
