The reason for his desire to suppress performing, was to avoid the melodramatic histrionics common with conventional acting as he believed it shortchanges the complexities of human emotion that in real life are much more subtle and not always on the surface. A seemingly literary exercise, but one that slowly and memorably imprints itself sensorially by the final reel. It centers around a young priest who has taken over a parish in Ambicourt. Diary is also particularly notable as being the first film in which Bresson started using first-time actors, including Laydu, whose performance, along with Florence Delay’s turn in Joan, is the most spellbinding that I have witnessed in any Bresson film. But once seen, it will never be forgotten. There's always the sense that Bresson knows exactly where he's going and the simplest way to get there. During Bible studies at the nearby girls school, he is continually mocked by his students. Regal The community of the small town does not accept him, and although having a serious disease in the stomach, the inexperienced and frail priest tries to help the dwellers, and has a situation with the wealthy family of the location.
