The Shakur who emerges here is no illiterate gangster-turned-gangsta but, rather, a bright, artistic, driven man whose life and career continue to inspire many people. If I have a complaints= it would be that other characters in the book have their life story told. Music has a good beat to the culture we have today. He apparently abused women, shot people, did a lot of drugs, and hung with gangsters. It's good to broaden ones horizons. So everything that I do that's bad, I'm going to suffer for it. His skill in doing so made him a spokesperson not just for his own generation, idea, trend, or movement that shapes and defines that time period. Some attributes that they both had were philosophies that changed the way people looked at things, they both wrote their way to success, and the biggest similarity they have is that they did not let where they came from stop them from becoming successful. 2Pac only felt truly alive when he was immersed in the arts. Overall I enjoyed the book and perhaps now know why young people identify with the rap/hiphop genre of music.

I decided I wanted to know more about 2Pac after reading his book of poetry, The Rose That Grew from Concrete. It kind of just sucks you in to his life, ad every step forward or backward he took, I took it along with him. While growing up in East Harlem, N, Tupac Shakur was a sensitive, precociously talented yet troubled soul who came to embrace the 1990s gangsta-rap aesthetic and paid the ultimate price — he was gunned down in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996 and died six days later.
